What Girls Wore in the 1940s?

While girls primarily wore dresses and skirts, very young girls sometimes wore overalls. In the later forties, pinafores, like the one in figure 27, were worn over dresses and throughout the 1940s, plaids, gingham, floral, and bright colors were popular choices, worn with contrasting white collars.

What to Wear for A 1940s Party?

Dress in WWII-era vintage inspired 1940s dresses, then swing dance the night away to the latest big bands. 1940s dresses were flattering with a modest puff sleeve top, a fitted waist, and a knee-length A-line skirt.  The button own shirtwaist dresses was especially charming. The later ’40s saw the skirt narrow into the pencil or straight wiggle shape for a bit more Va Va Voom.  Patriotic colors (red, white, blue, army green) were the most common during wartime while brighter colors cheered women up in the later years. Don’t forget that prints were in! Small flowers, polka dots, checks, tropical, and thin stripes added variety to a wardrobe. If you go to a 1940s party, you can check these styles.
